Hello. Is there a way to connect to the MCP server that is hosted remotely? The current documentation only has examples of locally deployed servers.

Not yet. But we're working on it. In fact, I think there might be two PRs already open for it. Soon... Soon.

Maybe tell Gemini CLI in its initial prompt that remote mcp server are not yet supported ;-) ... as it edited the config file with the mcp-url I gave it, and when it didn't work, it tried to use curl and web_fetch to connect to my remote mcp server... which obviously didn't work... and one hour later I'm here finding out it it's actually not supported yet!

It works for me by adding a remote MCP server as follows:

Well, many of my remote MCPs have worked I think since the beginning, see two random ones:

Since the beginning I went the banal way: I had set these where the Readme and more .md files of this very project https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli told me to set these. Actually they can be specified in one of the three files (at about 3 levels) actually, see https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli documentation.

What does your Gemini AI say where to set them, btw, you having Gemini AI via its CLI having read these Readmes etc?
